Travel 1003: Installing Travel 1003 series electric motor on your dinghy

We at KVT innovations love when business takes us to Catalina Island.  Whenever using a dinghy the go to for any of the KVT crew are the Torqeedo electric outboard motors.  We proudly sell these excellent motors, and regularly use them ourselves. We shot an impromptu video of the assembly of Ian's Travel 1003 on his dinghy.  The Travel 1003 is a powerful, quite, and clean electric outboard that is as easy to use as it gets.

Halyard Hanger Dock Box Organization by KVT innovations: Halyard Hanger, your solution for yacht organization and much more!

Halyard Hanger Dock Box Organization

This post is here to demonstrate that the Halyard Hanger can do more than organize yacht sheets and halyards...it does a great job of sprucing up your dock as well.  Here are photos of a recent install by a client on a dock box.  As you can see this is a great way to hang your shore power cord or hose.

KVTinnovations: Install of two Halyard Hangers on a Jeanneau 57 for genoa sheets

Halyard Hanger Install on Jeanneau 57

We recently had the pleasure of installing two Halyard Hangers on a 2013 Jeanneau 57.  This is one sweet machine and we at KVT innovations were happy to see the Halyard Hanger looking right at home in this 57' yachts impressive cockpit.  The Halyard Hanger is a piece of sailing hardware designed to organize yacht sheets and organize halyards, and it performs this task perfectly on the Jeanneau 57.  The Jeanneau 57 is a well thought out and stunningly beautiful yacht, for the majority of the halyards and sheets there are storage areas which elegantly hold the lines and keep them organized.  We found that the aft led genoa sheets were the old two that did not have an optimal storage location.  That was quickly fixed with the addition of two Halyard Hangers.

We made an install video to demonstrate the install process and to show the improvement the Halyard Hangers provide over the stock lay out.

Step by Step Installation of Halyard Hangers, your soultion for Yacht Organization and Much More!

Halyard Hanger Step by Step Installation on Jeanneau 39i

We had the pleasure of recently installing six Halyard Hangers on a Jeanneau 39i, this was a fairly simple install which made a world of a difference.  On our last post we saw only the before and after photos, here we will go into more detail and see a step by step install with photos.  As you will see the cockpit organization, sheet and halyard organization, and general looks were all greatly improved.

First off, here is the before photo again, this is how the yacht first appeared; not bad but messy, disorganized, and overall not ideal.

Our first step was to look at the cockpit and try to visualize how we would like to see it when finished.  If you are planning your own install imagine what would be the most convenient (and stylish) location for your Halyard Hangers, how much space you would like each hanger to have?  Where would you like your sheets or halyards to be when you need them?  What areas would you like more space or less clutter?  This is your yacht make it exactly how YOU want it!

The first step we took for this install is not necessary but it is a helpful way to plan your Halyard Hanger install.  We took common blue painters tape and laid out the locations for our hangers.  Placing painters tape allows you to see the lines and to mark locations without having to mark your yacht.  On this particular yacht the cabin top bulk head has a nice sloping line, we wanted to follow this angle and laying the tape made this very easy.
Placing painters tape to plan out install
Tape makes following lines visually easy

As you can see in the photo below marking on the tape allows you to make accurate marks and not mar your fiberglass.  You also will want to check the reverse side (inside your yacht) and make sure you are going to drill into an area that is unobstructed.

The next step is the fun part, get your drill, and 11/64 drill bit and make those holes!

Drilling the second hole through a Halyard Hanger will help with spacing
If you used tape you can now remove it and clean the surface, a prepped surface will ensure that silicon will have a clean surface to grab onto (if you choose to seal with silicon).

To ensure a perfectly water tight seal we recommend using silicon for your install.  Place a small amount of silicon on the back of the hanger and along the threads of the through bolts.  Be sure to clean up and excess silicon when done!

You are almost there!  The next step is to install the Halyard Hangers, it will help to have someone on the inside of the yacht and another on the outside.  The person on the outside should hold the through bolt steady and properly aligned (++ instead of +x) while the person on the inside tightens the nuts.

And now you have the perfect tools to organize your halyards, sheets, or whatever else you need organized!

Halyard Hanger Jeanneau 39i Before and After

Today we bring you before and after photos of Jeanneau 39i in San Diego California which recently received the Halyard Hanger treatment.  This stylish French yacht was already quite an impressive yacht with great styling and design, however we believe you will be convinced by the before and after photos that we have taken this yacht up a notch and really perfected its looks.

For this install we found the ideal location to mount the Halyard Hangers to be on the bulkhead just below the harken winches.  This location would make it easy to organize sheets, organize halyards, and provide great ease of use.  By installing the Halyard Hangers in this location it also freed up space and increased this yachts level of safety.  This particular yacht owner has young children and a consideration had been the safety of bringing the lines off of the floor and surfaces where they could be a tripping or tangle hazard, this is however a great consideration for all sailors and really gives everyone one less thing to worry about on your day out on the water.

Below is the before photo.  As you can see the sheets and halyards are not ideal and appear messy and disorganized.  If you need to get access to a single line out of the mass it would require more effort than you likely want to expend.   Many of us are used to this appearance, however there is now another option.

As you can see in the after photo the sheet and halyard organization is far better.  Access to any specific line is easy and stress free (and isn't that what a day on the boat should be about after all?).  The yachts cockpit lines are also now more visible and cleaned up, and we would argue the yacht now has a better "dock presence".

As these pictures show this yacht now has a much cleaner look.  This is a major improvement in appearance for a small cost, for a fraction the cost of a single cleaning this yacht now has its style down to a T.

To see more details about this install tune in for our next blog post where we will give a detailed step by step account of this install, it will be a great help if you are planning out your own Halyard Hanger overhaul!

The Halyard Hanger, the latest product from KVT innovations, has arrived and is ready to organize your yacht, dock box, lazarette, home, garage and more!

The Halyard Hanger is the perfect solution to organize your yachts cockpit.  The Halyard Hanger was created from the need for organization of sheets and halyards in sailing yachts.  Many owners of sailing yachts have desired for a way to organize the sheets, halyards, and other lines on their boat, before the Halyard Hanger the only options were bundling the mass of lines over winches (which can create a disorganized look) or to purchase a plastic hanger.  We at KVT innovations realized that yacht owners wanted a device to hang their lines built of quality materials, able to perform under any conditions, and which would not look out of place on their stylish yacht.  The Halyard Hanger is a piece of marine hardware which will fit in with the other sailing hardware found on your yacht and not stand out like a plastic piece may.  Its rounded mirror finished stainless steel body is unobtrusive and will not snag on you while you manoeuvre around your cockpit.  Loose lines in your cockpit or on deck are not only unsightly, but can also be a hazard.  Loose lines can snag on feet, especially if you or your crews attention is focused on something else (like tacking, jibbing, or simply enjoying the sights out on the water).

The Halyard Hanger is constructed from solid marine grade stainless steel and is polished to a mirror finish.  The Hanging loop on the hanger is made from 550 paracord, a material chosen by the US military for use as parachute lines for the reasons we use it; its resistance to corrosion, its resistance to UV wear, and its immense strength, possessing a minimum 550lb tensile breaking strength.  These traits in both the stainless steel body and the hanging cord mean that the Halyard Hanger will be with you through the harshest conditions, whether on your yacht, dock box, garage or outdoors.

The Halyard Hanger will hold your sheets and halyards for you so they are there and easy to grab when you need them , giving you the edge over that less organized crew when your in the heat of a race.   With crew members likely manoeuvring around a tight space any organization can mean increased efficiency and safety.  The organization the Halyard Hanger provides also means that when you are back at the docks your yacht will not only play the part but will look the part.  Your yacht is an elegant machine out on the water with sleek lines and purpose, it deserves to look just as sleek when back at the dock.  In the next post we will see photos of an very sharp French yacht, the Jeanneau 39i, which got the Halyard Hanger makeover.  Though already a sharp looking yacht, it is now greatly improved and now is a true beauty at the docks (after this recent install we have received happy feedback that the owner has already received compliments at the dock, thanks for the writing back we love to hear feedback!)

If you have been looking for a line organize to hang sheets or halyards on your yacht your request has finally been answered.  The Halyard Hanger is now available for purchase at HalyardHanger.com, Amazon.com, and soon to be found in your local marine supply store.

Thank you for reading, we hope to earn your business.
